Literature Text

Keep moving little runner,

keep breathing in the air,

even when that simple act

seems like more than you can bear.

Keep racing towards your destination,

whether that be home or away from home,

or to the very edges of the earth,

the sea, the stars that you can roam.

Keep moving little runner;

remember you always have more

inside of you than you realize

to find a peace unlike before.

Keep running marathoner,

whether fast, slow, or crawling through,

and when you feel like you’re standing still,

remember the earth is moving, too.

May the road rise up to meet you

and the wind blow at your back.

May the sun rise just to greet you

and wash away the black.

And may you reach those pearly gates,

as you keep striving on ahead,

and cross the finish line an hour

before the devil knows you're dead.

haha! Thought I would try my hand at rhyming. It feels cheesy (it IS cheesy), but it's good to try, I think. I wanted to write something not depressing, so I thought I would write about my love for running and how I think it can apply to everything we strive for in life. I incorporated a well known Irish Blessing in here. I think its appropriate because I'm of Irish decent, but that's all the claim I have to it. I think I'll try to put this in Day Brighteners, because although I know this poem is incredibly cheesy (like a really bad version of a greeting card), I hope it gives some people encouragement. =)

It is a little cheesy, but it's also very hopeful. And you definitely pulled off the rhyming. :) I think calling it cheesy like a bad version of a greeting card is being too hard on yourself.
